Rhyl Clinic

We have now moved to our new clinic on the corner of Bedford Street and Vaughan Street (View Map) at:

1 Vaughan Street
Rhyl
LL18 1TB

We can now offer neutering and other surgical procedures at our clinic. The first priority is for neutering cats as they are the greatest problem locally. We will add neutering dogs and dental work into the plan as and when this becomes practical. If you wish to book your animal in please arrange an appointment by calling 01745 355 798. Once we have a price-list for procedures available it will be posted here but you can be assured that it will be cheaper than a private vet and we may be able to discount it further depending on your circumstances.

We can also provide a veterinary service to local animals. This service is at present limited to people on limited incomes eg state benefits or pension. You will need to provide details of your animal (see Welfare Assistance for the details required) plus proof of your entitlement to benefits. Also, every animal registered (or address, ie if like me you have multiple pets [in my case 4 dogs] you only need to pay for one animal) requires a fee of £5.00 to register. If you don't want to register but would like the vet to complete a health check of your pet this will be charged at £3.00. Please note that some RSPCA clinics charge a consultation charge each time you visit that can be as much as £15.00 but consultations at our clinic are free. You will also no doubt be aware that VAT has increased from 15% to 17.5% from 01/01/10. We have decided to absorb that increase, ie not pass it on to our clients.

For a comprehensive price list follow this link.

Euthanasia (Put To Sleep) Please ask for details or follow this link.

We have standardized the charges in all the clinics operating in North Wales ie Wrexham, Shotton, Llandudno Junction and the mobile clinic.

Rhyl Clinic Reception The shop part of the clinic is open from 10:00am to 2:00pm on clinic days (Monday and Thursday). During these times we will be able to sell flea treatments, worm treatments, microchip your pet and offer advice, although there will be no vet in attendance. We will also sell pet accessories (leads and collars etc.)

The clinic, with a vet in attendance, is open from 2:00pm to 3:30pm every Monday and Thursday (except Bank Holidays). Drugs are charged at a little over cost price. Our main aim is to treat as many animals for as many complaints as possible. Please note that if you arrive after 3:30pm you may not be seen as the vet has to return to their practice.

You can contact the clinic during opening hours by calling 01745 355 798. Bear in mind that whilst the clinic is open they may be busy with clients. Outside opening hours you can contact our manager on 01745 887 057, but PLEASE bear in mind that she is NOT employed by the RSPCA, volunteers her time and that this is her home telephone number.

Rehoming of animals

There has been a worrying trend of people bringing animals to the clinic to be rehomed. Please note that although we come under the auspices of the RSPCA we are an independent charity that has no facilities for taking animals in, let alone rehoming them. Such facilities would require not just space for the animals but 24-hour staffing, accommodation that meets the requirements of the Animal Welfare Act and licensing for the maximum number of animals we would be allowed to accept, none of which we have.

Many people seem to believe that because there is an RSPCA animal centre at Bryn-Y-Maen, that bringing unwanted pets to us will automatically result in those animals going to Bryn-Y-Maen. Nothing could be further from the truth. If you bring an animal to us our only options are to try and find another charity to take them on OR have the animal 'put to sleep'. If we are put in the position of putting healthy animals to sleep just because they no longer fit your lifestyle or you are moving house to a location where you cannot have pets, then I can assure you that the trustees would prefer to close the branch rather than kill simply 'unwanted pets'. This would mean that local RSPCA support for animals would end as would welfare assistance for those pet owners facing hardship over vet bills. Either way the effect on local animals would be catastrophic.
